How to preview a necklace length at home

1.  Cut a piece of string to the listed necklace length.

2.  Place it around your neck where the chain would sit.

3.  If the style has a pendant, allow for the pendant to hang below the chain line.

4.  Compare the result with the product-page photos and measurements before ordering.

Method 1 — Measure a ring that already fits

Choose a ring that fits the intended finger comfortably. Measure the inside diameter straight across the widest part of the circle, not including the metal edge. Compare that millimeter measurement with the chart.

Method 2 — Measure your finger

Wrap a narrow strip of paper or non-stretch string around the part of the finger where the ring will sit. Mark where the ends meet, lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters. Compare that circumference with the chart. Do not pull the strip too tightly.

Ring measuring tips

· Measure near the end of the day, when fingers are often slightly larger.

· Avoid measuring immediately after being very cold or very hot.

· If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of your finger, make sure the ring can pass comfortably over the knuckle.

· Wider bands often feel tighter than thin bands; if you are between sizes, the larger size may be more comfortable.

· Measure more than once for consistency.

How to measure your wrist

Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the wrist where you want the bracelet to sit. If you do not have a tape, use a strip of paper or non-stretch string and measure it against a ruler. Then add ease based on how you like a bracelet to fit.

· Close fit: add roughly 0.25 in / 0.6 cm to your wrist measurement.

· Comfortable everyday fit: add roughly 0.5 in / 1.3 cm.

· Loose fit: add roughly 0.75–1.0 in / 1.9–2.5 cm, depending on the design.

These ease suggestions are general. Chunky bracelets, rigid bangles and charm-heavy designs may fit differently, so use the product-page dimensions as the final reference.

Anklet fit

Measure around the ankle at the point where you want the anklet to sit. Add a small amount of ease so the chain can move without feeling tight. If the anklet includes an extender, review the minimum and maximum length shown on the product page.

Earring measurements

Earring size is usually described by dimensions such as hoop diameter, drop length, width or decorative element size. A 20 mm hoop can look very different from a 40 mm hoop even when photographed at the same crop. Use stated measurements rather than judging scale from product photography alone.

Layering necklaces

For a clean layered look, create visible spacing between chain lengths. A common starting point is a 2-inch difference between layers, for example 16 in + 18 in + 20 in. Pendant sizes and chain thickness can change the balance, so adjust based on the specific pieces.

Choosing a chain for your neckline

Shorter chains tend to work well with open necklines and close-to-neck styling, while 18–20 inch lengths are common for pendants that sit around or below the collarbone. Longer chains can create more vertical space and are useful for layering. The same length can sit differently on different bodies, so use the string-preview method when placement matters.

Adjustable chains & extenders

If a necklace, bracelet or anklet includes an extender, the product page should list the usable length range whenever possible. An extender gives styling flexibility but does not change the base proportions of the piece. Check both the shortest and longest wearable length if you plan to layer it with other jewelry.

Bangles & rigid bracelets

Rigid bangles are sized differently from flexible chain bracelets because they must pass over the widest part of the hand or open according to their construction. Do not rely only on wrist circumference. Use the product-specific inner diameter, opening or circumference measurement shown for the bangle.

Comfort matters as much as the number

Sizing charts are useful, but the best size also depends on how you like jewelry to move. Some people prefer a close bracelet; others want visible drape. Some prefer a ring that feels secure at the base of the finger; others need extra room over the knuckle. Use the chart as a measurement tool, then choose based on the design and your comfort preference.

Product-page measurements come first

This guide is general. If the measurements on a product page differ from this guide, use the product-page measurements for that item.
